The Devious Exposure Squad

As of right now, the Wallpaper Gallery's newest venture into helping raise community awareness is officially being called the Devious Exposure Squad. Currently it consists of over 40 volunteer deviant team-members all interested helping new and virtually unkown Wallpaper-deviants get more exposure to not only their art, but to themselves.

We'll do this by culling together our immense eye for great potential and solid talent and culminating it into a huge News Article that will feature whatever our team's Finds are. All deviants of the DES have free reign to choose whatever they like to feature in whatever way best suits them, so long as it meets the long-standing criteria of the Wallpaper Gallery, and the few things listed in the bottom of this journal.

Our aim is simply to have fun! But as well as that, we'd like to pull together as a whole and increase our Gallery's browsing, Up the attention of our Gallery to the rest of deviantART, and find those cool new artists with the potential to be the next big thing.

How can you sign-up to help?
Just note me with the title "SIGN ME UP!" and I'll add you to the roster and deputize you as a Special Taskforce deviant. Basically, it means you get a pretty badge^* and the opportunity to work with your fellow community to put together a kick-ass News Article.

How the Article Will Work
How it’s Going to Work?

This project will be taking on a News Article format.
The News Article will come out once every two weeks, with the exception of lack of content, in which case it would get pushed back to one that month.

I will take the DES's Finds, and format them together into a cohesive News Article that will feature each member's choices, as well as an optional comment from them. Any given DES member may choose to feature all of their choices from one artist, and present it to you as a single feature, spotlighting a single person. it's purely up to them.

Duplicate Finds will be handled as a "Squad's Choice Selection", and set into it's own catgory. The Finds and respctive finders will be grouped together, so that the credit will go to all responsible deviants and the art will still get showcased.

Everyone, including the DES themselves, can keep track of the DES's current status and roster by checking our official D.E.S. Update Center, which can be located in the upper left corner of my Journal Home page, above the Shoutbox and Poll modules.

Before each deadline the names on the Roster will be crossed out. This is to show who has reported in with Art-finds and who is still working on them.

The following criteria is to be used in choosing the art, and should be folowed as consistently as can be, for the sake of less workload on my end.

Take It Easy!
You're helping on a volunteer basis, so there's absolutely no pressure to do anything. Please remember that you’re not obligated in any way to stay with the DES. If you choose to remove yourself from the team, I would very much appreciate a note to let me know that you’re no longer interested in helping, so i can reassign a new deviant who may be waiting for your slot to open.

Don’t stress yourself out trying to find the best art in the world. That’s what DD’s are for.
I want to fearlessly put aside our natural wallpaper sensibilities when the time comes, and choose art with Potential. By "potential", I mean Art that with a couple of changes here and there could be totally acceptable to you and I; and art that perhaps we normally wouldn’t imagine ourselves using on our desktops. I want awesome art too, don’t get me wrong. If you can find it, let’s get it in there… I just don’t want to discriminate by differentiating between well-skilled and the potential to be.

How to Send Your Finds
Please send NO LESS than 3 and NO MORE than 5 Wallpapers in a note ONLY to ^allhopeislost. Our other Gallery Directors are in full support, but do not have the time to devote to this project right now. I do!

The note should have the heading “MY FINDS”. You may use the :thumb####: command, as I can see them even if you’re not subscribed. You’re welcome to start a collection of your own and link me to it in your “MY FINDS” note, though it's much easier for me to manage a Note than a link.

Search Criteria
Artwork has to conform to all of the normal Wallpaper Gallery specifications. No exceptions whatsoever. I’d prefer a minimum of 1024x768, but I’m not picky.
PLEASE DO NOT ever send me Photography or Photomanipulations finds that have Celebrity, Music, or Movie faces/images in them, or those that contain lyrics IN the art. This will save us the embarrassment of accidentally showcasing copyright violations.
Vector, Digital Airbrushing, 3-D modeling, and Traditional works that include celebrities however are great!

Types of Unknown Artists
I've tennatively grouped together the following examples as a guideline of what the DES should be looking for, please use your best judgement... or feel free to set criteria of your own that better suits your perosnal standards.

Unknown/New Artists
A person who has little or no friends and super-small to no pageviews on their pieces.

Virtually Unknown Artists
Anyone who isn’t a huge name in our Gallery, but is clearly a burgeoning talent (or potential talent).

Non-wallpaper Specialists
Anyone who primarily works in other mediums, ie. Photographers, Traditional Artists, Skinners, Photomanipulators, etc. A quick peek through their Gallery should answer that question for you pretty easily.

Potential Talents:
Any artist who meets any of the above criteria but who seems like at some point in their artistic future they could very well be the next `manicho, *petercui, or ^DigitalPhenom.
